Write253 is a literacy arts organization. We work with students in local elementary, middle, and high schools through after school and in-school programming. We also facilitate a writing club at Reman Hall Juvenile Detention Center in Tacoma and organize Louder Than a Bomb-Tacoma: The Tacoma Teen Poetry Festival, Youth Day at the Tacoma Poetry Festival, and a variety of workshops and camps in and around Tacoma.
We were founded in 2011 by a group of educators interested in bringing transformative writing programs to youth in the region. Since then, we’ve with thousands of Pierce County youth and have been fortunate to forge relationships with a host of excellent nonprofit, grass roots, and educational institutions.
We recognize that Tacoma is a wellspring of creative and youthful energy, and we look forward to growing and connecting with more students, more mentors, and more artists as we grow.
