We are honored to be working with elementary and middle school students in the Salishan housing community and at First Creek Middle School, both off Portland Avenue on Tacoma’s eastside. The students are smart, fun and creative, and the teachers are passionate and hardworking. We’re glad to be able to pitch in!
Our volunteers provide after-school homework help and creative writing activities at Salishan on Monday-Wednesday, from 3-5 pm. At First Creek, we’re creating an after-school research and writing project — tentatively titled “Why War?” — as part of the innovative Eagle Center program. And, we are recruiting volunteers to support writing teachers in their classrooms.
Finally, we are super excited to move in to our space at 1310 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, where we’ll organize evening and weekend writing workshops, offer displays of student writing, and, in general, do anything we can think of to enrich the writing environment in Tacoma!
